The two University of Guyana staff members who were accused of stealing a laptop computer and a projector from the Learning Resource Centre (LRC) of the institution have been suspended from duty until further notice.
The items were discovered missing last week Thursday morning, when the staff reported for work.
Security guards at the university, reported seeing one person enter the centre via the Deputy Vice Chancellor’s office, which adjoins the bottom flat of the centre, through an inside door.
It was further learnt that another person subsequently entered the centre by the same means.
The two then left with full bags, although, when they entered their bags were empty. They were challenged but refused to stop.
They subsequently returned with their empty bags, reportedly telling the guard that they were in a hurry. The men did not report for work the following day.
The police were called in and they were subsequently arrested.
They were later identified as the persons who had entered the centre.
They were granted bail and reported for work yesterday but were given letters of suspension.
The items have not been recovered.
